Mage Character Guidelines

Please direct questions and character submissions to the Mage Story Teller West

Experience Allowances

A) Disciple (Beginner) - 0-60 Experience or less

A Beginner character is recommended for those who are not well versed in this venue. Beginner characters may be established in the city.
Beginner characters may not have restricted items, and they do not require a background. However all characters must be submitted to the venue ST before IC posting may begin.

Tier Restrictions:

- Starting Gnosis at a maximum of 3
- Starting Arcana at a maximum of 3

B) Adept (Mainstream) - 61-160 Experience

A mainstream character is older and more experienced then a Beginner character. This type of character may have lived in the city for a long time or may have an extensive background in another city.
Mainstream characters may have restricted items, but they also require a background and ST approval.

Tier Restrictions:

- Starting Gnosis at a maximum of 4
- Starting Arcana at a maximum of 4

C) Master (Elder) (
this Tier is currently full)

Tier Restrictions:

- More then one Arcana at 5
- Starting Gnosis higher than 5

General Restrictions:

Only %45 of your character creation experience may be used to purchase supernatural advantages. This would include: Blood Potency, Gnosis, Primal Urge, and Wyrd. It also includes: Disciplines, Arcana, Gifts, Contracts, and Template-only Merits. If more then %45 of your character creation experience is allocated to these supernatural advantages, your character will be denied.

- No Banisher or Seer characters
- No Merits or Items associated with either
- No Merits from Tome of the Watchtowers except Daimon
- No Legacy: Celestial Masters
- No Left-Handed Legacies, or nearly Left

Only one Mage mainstream is allowed per player. If a player wishes to have multiple characters, all others must be beginners.

Changes:

NOT Using:
Optional Rule: Spatial Command (TotM)
Optional Rule: Temporal Command (TotM)
Optional Rule: To The Limit (TotM)

Starting play with a Legacy will require 12 XP. This XP can be represented as either a Legacy Mentor 3, or as Legacy XP paid that Mentor, or both.

MET: Awakening Precast system is used to begin play with Imbued Items or Active spells (allocate Gnosis x Stamina successes).
Extended spell dice roll limit is currently set to a character's Gnosis.

A Mage may expect to be able to scrutinize a target a number of times equal to his Gnosis per scene.

Spellcasting in the vicinity of a Hallow only allows a Mage to alleviate the Mana cost equal to his Gnosis per day.

Rote dice pools are determined by a character's natural stats. Attributes or Skills altered by magic may not increase spell dice pools.

Puissant Skill and Willful process are upped to 3 dot spells and cost Mana.

Prepared or triggered spells cast in a sanctum, but activated in front of sleeper witnesses may be subject to another paradox or disbelief roll.

Imbued spells cast without an indefinite duration are activated by the expenditure of a point of Mana and an Instant Action.

Character Customization

Please place any of your active spells in your signature for that character.

Example: Kuan - (Active spell 1, Active spell 2, active spell 3) Striking Looks 2, any other physical notations, Maria-(Active Spell 1, Active spell 2) any other physical notations, etc.

Your Relation to other Supernaturals:

Merits which allow information or assistance from non-Mage supernaturals, for example:

Werewolf Contacts, Vampire Allies, Changeling Status

Require approval from the appropriate ST. Mage ST does not control or create WW, Vamp, or Fae NPCs, so if you do not have approval for the Skill Specialty, you don't get it.
