Castor Drake

Castor was born in 1845 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the youngest of 9 children born to a wealthy shipping family. When the Civil War broke out in 1861, Castor along with his 5 brothers enlisted in the Confederate Army and in 1862 became a member of Gregg's Brigade, fighting at the Second Battle of Bull Run. Throughout the war Castor was injured numerous times. He was stabbed twice, shot once and lost the pinky on his left hand. By the end of the war, Castor had become a capable lieutenant and was popular among his men. The War, despite being kind to him had killed all his brothers and left his family destitute.
With no future in Louisiana, Castor moved to Texas and became a deputy sheriff in a small ranching town. After 4 years and the murder of his predecessor Castor was made sheriff. Castor was never particularly social during his tenure as Sheriff. He did his duty with honor and efficiency but never made friends within the town. Most of the residents viewed him as an important part of the community, if a little distant.
After years as sheriff Castor had the misfortune of meeting Alexandre Fenco, a decrepit ancient Nosferatu with a malicious streak. Seeing the relative peace Castor had found in this community, Fenco took it upon himself to end that peace. Three nights after their initial meeting Fenco embraced Castor, much to Castor's dismay. The following night Fenco disappeared, leaving a childe, with no knowledge of what he had become, alone to deal with the harsh reality. The third night, thirst drove Castor to kill a local rancher. He was caught in the act however and forced to flee.
The next few years of Castor's life followed a similar pattern. He would move from town to town, staying only long enough to feed and keeping away from people whenever possible. After 3 years of self imposed exile, a wandering Cardinal of the Lancea Sanctum found Castor and offered him guidance. Castor eagerly joined the Lancea Sanctum. He was grateful for the guidance and sense of purpose it offered. For the several decades, Castor followed the Cardinal, acting as a retainer for him. During this time of endless travel Castor learned of true Kindred Society, the nuances of Court and the ranks and titles held by others. Then in the 1960s the Cardinal entered torpor. Beforehand, however, he had given Castor a simple task, "Serve our righteous cause with all the faithfulness with which you served me".
Since then he has wandered the country visiting various cities and serving the church wherever possible. There have been times of peace and conflict since Castor became independent. Each city he visits offers him something new. Sacramento is to be like many of his past journeys, a place where he can serve the church until he is no longer needed.
Castor's curse of being Nosferatu manifests itself in the form of gnarled hands. Though function isn't impaired, they look black and rotted. He also carries the odor of smoke and gunpowder with him. The odor tends to arrive before he does and lingers for a moment even after he has left a specific area.
