History
Youth
Drake David Drummond was born to a middle class suburban family in a small town in Northern California. From a young age he was notably small, skinny, and nerdy compared with his peers. This resulted in him growing more inwardly than outwardly during his time in public grade schools. While he suffered the ridicule of the 'jocks' or 'preps,' it never crossed D's, or Triple D as some of the kids knew him, mind to take retribution. He simply ignored his tormentors and studied. He even took a martial arts class as a boy, though he didn't continue as he grew up. Even as a youth Drake was enthralled by fantasy and the supernatural. While he never had trouble with science, his attentions were geared more history and literature and philosophy. Though he focused a great deal on airy, intellectual pursuits, any time he did spend amongst his peers was watching and analyzing as closely as any legend or story or philosophical argument.
Pre-Embrace
D's attention to his education and personal growth paid off when, of all his peers, D was the first to receive acceptance letters to the top three colleges of his choice. His exposure to literature, high philosophy, and even the classic supernatural tales gave him a deep well to draw on in his essays, and he utilized every tool at his disposal, including his insights into human personality.
Among the colleges that accepted him, D decided that he'd stay a little closer to home, and he went to University of California Davis. When he proposed an interdisciplinary program in religion, philosophy, and literature the admissions department was captivated, and combined with academic scholarship he was awarded, it made UC Davis the natural choice. Leaving his small, Northern California town to go to college exposed Drake David Drummond to sides of himself he'd never expected. At an intellectual institution like Davis, D fit in quickly, finding a crowd of like minded people. What was less expected was how his new friends reacted to his looks. Everyone he'd grown up with knew him as the scrawny nerd who might come to the party, but would mostly sit in the corner and watch. With new people, D gained an awareness of how he'd matured. Skinny and scrawny had become lithe and tight. He was not heavily muscled, but his body had firmed to tight ropes of muscle, and his time doing karate as a kid had commuted to a bit of grace. People watching had given Drake a sense of how to manipulate others. D was not a malicious person by nature, but being awakened to his body in new ways, he did not hesitate to sample the fare. He did not limit himself to any one 'flavor' either.
For the first couple semesters D was able to grow socially while still maintaining the academic excellence that got him to where he was. Though he learned to utilize his looks to get what he wanted, part of D's attractiveness was his mix of intellectuality and humbleness about his appearance. So as D's tastes in extracurricular activities broadened, he met the man that would become his Sire.
Turning
It was his fifth semester at Davis when Triple D met the man who would eventually Embrace him. Besides blossoming both physically and socially, D grew sexually. He had always leaned more towards same-sex attractions as a boy (part of what made him withdrawn from his peers), but his new found confidence in his social grace meant he had more than enough opportunities with women that he decided not to limit himself. In trying not to limit himself, D's activities strayed into more exotic tastes, and he began traveling in new circles. His interests in the supernatural and occult led him to the "goth" crowds. There were those who criticized him for not dressing as a goth, but there were as many who found his depth of knowledge and seeming naivete captivating. And that was how he met Gren.
Gren was a self absorbed man, who's only interest in other people were how they could keep him entertained. D was not generally Gren's type. He was in the scene because he preferred the goth children. Like a splash of color, D entered the scene, and Gren turned his charms on the eclectic young man. Gren entranced D immediately, and D would later learned that it did indeed involve the power of the Blood. Gren's usual fare tended more towards the licentious rather than intellectual, but D's mild manner and combination of both looks and smarts kept him intrigued.
This was the point where D's attention to school decreased, and eventually there came the end of what was his mortal life. It occurred first as a course of his actions. Scholarships lapsed as his attendance and grades fell. Friends fell by the wayside as he succumbed to the attraction Gren held for him. Within two months, Gren and D's mutual infatuation culminated. Drawn in by the peek into a world he had only ever dreamed of, he easily accepted the prospect of Gren's Embrace.
What it came to in the end, was not unexpected from the Kindred of Davis, California. Gren never kept his toys around for long. And while he did not end up Embracing every one of them, the drag of having to instruct Drake David Drummond grated on his Sire. Freed from the direct attention of his Sire, D came to see how Gren used his toys up, usually, and decided that while Gren was distracted, he might try it out on his own.
Sacramento
Thus, D came out to Sacramento, hoping to find a niche for an intelligent and driven Kindred, and now finds himself struggling with the more feral nature of himself, now without any of the support he once had.
His entrance into Sacramento was a difficult transition at first. The streets were not D's realm. Initially holing up in small space in a maintenance area of a municipal library, D tried to do as much research as he could on his own. Gren had provided some instruction to D on what his new un-life could entail, and eventually did instruct him on what his new limitations were. Having fled from the plush life he lived with his Sire, D is struggling to deal with his Beast in ways he hadn't before. It was the possibilities of his new powers that intrigued him the most, though. Never had having had a real connection with any living person, D didn't feel a loss or emptiness. All he wants now is to explore the depths of his Blood and the Vitae.
His studies brought him into contact with those who pointed him towards the Ordo Dracul, and he leapt into the possibilities with both feet.
