Before:

Otto Fischer was born to German immigrants in San Pedro on April 1st, 1925. Growing up on the dock, Otto worked on his uncles fishing boats from the day he could walk. Otto learned a great deal about Japanese language and culture from his Japanese friends and the fishermen from the Terminal Island Japanese Fishing Village. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Otto joined the Marines at 16 by lying on his enlistment papers.

Because of his familiarity with the Japanese language, Otto briefly worked in Fleet Intellegence before being transferred to the Marine Raiders, 3rd Battalion, 5th Division carrying out commando operations in the central and south Pacific. Following the disbanding of the Raiders in '44, most of Otto's former company was reassigned to Hawaii due to accussations of 'questionable actions.' In '45 Otto met his and married his wife Kristi Shinseki, a hapa kepani. They had two son, Kaimana in '46 and Eginhard in '49.

When the Korean Conflict broke out, now Staff Sergeant Fischer was dispatched with the 1st Division to the the Korean theater and was set to take part in the amphibious assault at Inchon. Approaching the beach on the day of the invasion, his landing craft struck a mine near the shore and was flung into the water. Hitting the water he started kicking his way to the surface when he felt something grab his foot and pull him deeper into the water. Looking down he was horrified to see monstrous fish-men rising out of the depths and seizing marines.

Durance:

Dragged deep underwater, through submerged tunnels in the Hedge and into Arcadia, Otto was taken to a land of saltwater deltas, reefs and atols. Down below blue green waters, in a palace of coral and pearls, Otto and his men were taken before a monsterous creature he would only refere to as IT. IT twisted the men into creatures of water, Otto himself transformed into sea otter. An irony because of his name and his two professions.

As an otter Otto lived an existence that could be described as pleasant punchated by moments of terror. He spend much of his days playing in rivers, feasting on delicious fish around reefs and chasing after lady otters along river banks. The idlicness was punchated by hunting parties of fish-men and dangerous sea lions that roamed the waters of the realm. The vast water realm was an amphibous game presserve for Otto's Keeper. It took a very long time for his Keeper to recognize the value of Otto. IT dubbed him 'clever otter' after Otto had escaped and confounded his hunters on numerous occasions. In time IT began using him as an advanced scout, willing his pet ferret out secret passages into the realms of Keepers.

Otto's liberation day came on a very pleasant day. Rewarded for helping IT's hunters find a hidden path into a rival Gentry's realm, Otto had been allowed several days of frolicking in a river delta with the other otters. Sliding down tree trucks into the water and playing tag, Otto was quite pleased with himself for earning a day of play. Tiring of the tree slide Otto swam far upstream up to the edge IT's realm when he stumbled upon a raid. It wasn't just another raid by Gentry but wild changelings killing IT's hunters and kidnapping changelings like himself. The raid evoked memories from a far off time, a time before he was swam and played in rivers. He was bigger then, fighting humans with weapons that barked fire and thunder, breaking open cages and free people. He remembered a saying that he couldn't remember learning, “You don't leave anyone behind.” As the wild changelings crossed out of IT's, Otto panicked and chased after them. He was about to be left behind and he somehow just knew that wasn't something you were supposed to do. He trailed after them through the cutting leaves and thorns of the Hedge. At the last minute Otto lost the changelings and he fell into a hidden watering hole. He plunged deep into the water, much bluer, much saltier and much colder than he had felt in a long time.

After:

Otto washed ashore in Seattle in the dead of winter of 2007. Found by locals, he was rushed to a local hospital for hypothermia, pneumonia and delirium brought on exposure. While there he was identified by the local Changeling Freehold as a new arrival from Arcadia and was quietly whisked out of the hospital into a private residence for treatment and 're-adjustment.' Otto spent three years in Seattle, learning to cope with a world that was radically different from anything he could have imagined before his abduction. With his wife an old woman, children and grandchildren with no living memory of him, he himself listed as MIA at Inchon, Otto threw himself into the welcoming embrace of the Spring Court. As they had pointed out, he had spent the best years of his life in war and then in a watery cage. Why shouldn't he live his new life to the very fullest? In world with looser morals and lower inhibitions, he felt he had earned the right to really cut loose and enjoy himself.

But Otto was not just about playing. While an enthusiastic member of the Spring Court, Otto was still a Marine and was more than willing to mix it up on the front lines of the Freehold. More than a few members of the Summer Court were quite appreciative his energetic participation when the need arose.

After three years in Seattle, Otto decided he needed to return to his native California. Originally set on returning to San Pedro, a friend in Spring advised him that he might want spend time in Sacroment, re-acclimating himself to the new California before heading home the urban beast that was now LA. Hopping a greyhound Otto bid farwell to Seattle and started south for his home state.

Otto is a Swimmerskin and a member of the Spring Court. To those who can't see past the Mask, Otto is a wiry built, genial man in his late thirties with a twinkle in his hazel eyes and playful smirk on his lips. Behind the Mask Staff Sergeant Fischer looks like a revertible were-otter. . Covered head to toe in grey fur, large round ears and whiskers where most humans have mustaches, it is clear to all who can see that his many years in Arcadia have significantly impacted his body.
